OCTOBER/OKTOBER 2009 - NEWSLETTER / NUUSBRIEF

SPA TREATMENT on PREMIER CLASSE TRAIN
Shosholoza Meyl, in co-operation with Amani African Spa, has announced on Thursday 3rd September 2009 the official opening of a Spa on the Premier Classe train. A variety of treatments can be enjoyed, varying between 30 and 60 minutes per session.

One compartment and a coupe have been merged to form one bigger room - with a massage bed and other relevant equipment installed. Clients would have the opportunity to be pampered whilst enjoying the scenery passing by. Bookings for treatment are done on the train and are NOT included in the tour price!

The services are rendered from 08:00 to 21:00 daily, currently only on the Jo’burg to Cape Town route, but later to be extended to the other three routes as well. This feature will add some more value to the trip.

BAIE GELUK BOKKE!

SPECIAL ‘AWARD’ to TOUR GUIDE

Apparently the reason for this award is not good reading material for a family Newsletter like this one!

FEEDBACK on TOURS – September 2009
Namaqualand Flowers – Jo’burg to Namaqualand – 11 Tours were hosted in all and the people from “up north” had the opportunity to indulge in the beauty of Namaqualand. Not only enjoying the flowers, but the mountains, villages, villagers and regional foods. Many people heard for the first time about ‘skuinskoek’ and some even ate it!

Namaqualand Flowers – Durban to Namaqualand – 8 Tours were hosted in all and some of the best flower seasons was experienced and enjoyed. A gastro bug traveled along on two of the tours, making it less pleasant for some passengers.

Cape Town – JHB to CPT - Both tours are still in progress. On the one tour there is a group of learners from Hoërskool Wesvalia in Klerksdorp and on the other tour there is a big church group. Traveling by train through the vineyards in spring through the Hex River Valley is an unforgettable sight seeing experience. The lush green leaves and full farm dams make it a beautiful scenery. Unfortunately both trains were delayed with the ‘down run’ due to technical problems en route.

7 Provinces & 3 Trains – Circular route through the country – This tour, ideal for train travel-loving people, again had passengers from Gauteng, KZN, the Free State, North West and the Western Cape provinces on board. The new optional bus trip to the Hartbeespoort Dam area on the ‘rest’ day when in Gauteng, is growing in popularity. Visits to ‘Tant Malie se winkel’, the Chameleon craft market, a cheese making farm and the Dam itself, are just some of the places visited. This itinerary changes from time-to-time as well. The regular visit to “The World of Beer” in Jo’burg, a SA Brewery exhibition, is well enjoyed by all.

Motorbike-on-Train Tour – Jo’burg to Western Cape & Boland – Our biggest group ever! 37 bikes and 57 people – bikers and pillions. Due to the magnitude of the group, the group was divided into two smaller groups, each with its own leader and sweeper – doing the same routes but not at the same time and on the same day. Seven bikers from Germany, two from America and one from England traveled along, mixing and mingling with the locals.

Some of the bikers at Cape of Good Hope

Namibia –  Windhoek to Jo’burg – To travel through Namibia in spring is probably the best time to visit the country. It is still not too hot, there are lots to be seen in Etosha and the ‘veld’ was in good condition. For many passengers this was a first visit ever to this beautiful neighbouring country, with many highlights and new experiences. Many people did not know about the ‘wine estate’ in Omaruru. Some enjoyed a donkey cart ride for the first time. Other touched a seal at Walvis Bay! Some flew by small aero plane over Sossusvlei.

Namibia–  Jo’burg to Windhoek – This was the fifth and last tour for 2009 to Namibia. Apart from the many highlights on the tour, the group disembarked the train at‘Putsonderwater’ (Yes, there is such a place in South Africa – Ed.) to travel by bus to Kenhardt and the Augrabies Falls.

Close to 500 people traveled with JB Train Tours to this beautiful country in 2009. We are looking forward in hosting 3 tours to our neighbours in 2010.
