9 – 14 March 2011 6-Day tour
From Jo’burg to CPT
9th Year of hosting tours to the Cycle Tour
When travelling by train, you don’t have to worry about increasing petrol prices, tollgate fees, heavy traffic, driving back or sitting with stiff legs in your car. The long road through the Karoo becomes shorter AND you can enjoy a cold beer en route. It is so much easier and VERY price competitive.
Any person who is interested in going to the Cycle Tour may join this tour. I.e.: Cyclists, supporters, family, friends, children and girl friend, from anywhere.
Please note that this is the regular Trans Karoo Tourist train. (Just like previous years). A number of carriages have been booked on this train for the use of the Cycle Tour ‘participants’. At this stage, there is no other company running a train tour to the Cycle Tour, though we have another 5-day budget train tour as well, departing two days later, plus a new tour on the Premier Classe train.
Accommodation over the Cycle Tour weekend in Cape Town is very scarce and expensive. We were fortunate to secure a number of rooms in The Fountains hotel! This package is real value for money. We stayed in this hotel during the 2007, 2008, 2009 & 2010 races and it has proven to be very popular. (It is very close to the starting line of the race).
This tour is not only about The Cycle Tour, but about travelling & staying well and enjoying Cape Town and its amenities. The grapes are sweet, the weather normally good, the sea beautiful and the mountain clear. After all, you have to take a number of days leave – so enjoy it!
The advantage of this train is that you arrive two days earlier (than our other train tour) in Cape Town and you’ll have ample time to register for the race, visit the Expo and ‘tune your bike’ whilst enjoying a ‘last minute’ ride in the Mother City.
Please take note that this train departs from Cape Town to Jo’burg early evening on race day. If you miss the train on Sunday there is NO alternative transport available. However, go and enjoy it with a lot of other cyclists and supporters – like they do it annually.
